Hout Bay is regarded by its tight knit community (known as Hout Bayers) as the jewel of Cape Town’s Atlantic Seaboard. Hout Bay started life as a rural seaside village with the two original 1700’s farmhouses Kronendal and Moddergat still standing. One of Cape Towns most visited tourist attractions is Hout Bay’s working harbour with boat and yacht clubs.
Everyday hundreds of tourists are treated to seacharters to visit the large seal island colony and then enjoy the sights and sounds of the harbour- not to mention the famous fresh fish and chips available from several hot spots.
Today Hout Bay has become an extended suburb of Cape Town, being only 20 minutes from the City Centre and 30 minutes from the rest of the Cape Peninulas many attractions including schools shopping centres, gardens, parks, museums and nature trails. | | Surrounded by beaches and mountains overlooking the fertile Valley, Hout Bay is surrounded by national parks which allows it to keep its rural ambience.
There are about 28 suburbs of Hout Bay ranging from the poorer areas of Mandela Park and Hangberg to areas like Scott Estate and Beach Estate for younger family homes, to areas like Ken Rock, Klein Leeukoppie and Bergendal which are gated and secure estates to luxury seaview properties in areas like Hanging Meadows, Tierboskloof, Ruyteplaats and Llandudno.
Several of the Hout Bay apartments are bought to cater for the holiday market either on a short term and long term Hout Bay rental.
